The KEYMACRO file is used to define the registry value “hkcuiext.perfFilePath” in the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Group Policy\Confirmation.
This value is used to specify the path to the configuration file that is used to process all other performance or configuration settings that are defined by KeyMACRO.
KEYMACRO installs an agent in each of the user workstations (in the HKCU hive). This agent processes the configuration file path specified by the KEYMACRO file. After processing, the values from the configuration file are then written to the appropriate registry key in the registry hive of the workstation.
Now, you can perform an immediate performance and configuration refresh on any of your Active Directory domains without having to manually start a computer or run any scripts.
For example, all desktops within a domain will be refreshed with any changes from a recent computer image, allowing you to perform Windows Server 2008 testing and deployment.
Additionally, the registry hive values can be inspected to determine where a specific user can be affected. An example of this is a user with a disabled “keyboard cursor” notification. This is an important setting for individuals that spend most of their time on a computer.
KEYMACRO is a critical new Active Directory Group Policy management tool for both existing and new customers.
Most important, this can be applied to an entire domain or across a range of domain controllers.
This will enable a new administrative level of granularity in Group Policy management.
KEYMACRO can easily manage up to 100,000 unique settings!
KEYMACRO uses the same installer as the VIRTUAL MACRO files, and installs a single agent on every user’s computer.
This makes it the perfect solution for large environments where maintaining a baseline configuration can be a challenge.
Typically, an Active Directory environment can have hundreds of thousands of computers. However, the VIRTUAL MACRO FILES installer allows you to maintain a baseline configuration with as few as 25 unique.adm files.
KEYMACRO also features a “Time Machine” function where it can be configured to store a specific set of MACRO files in a back-up directory on a domain controller.
This allows you to get back to a baseline configuration with as few as three.adm files.
